Influence of Inhibitory Compounds on Biofuel Production from Oxalate-Rich Rhubarb Leaf Hydrolysates Using Thermoanaerobacter thermohydrosulfuricus Strain AK91

The present investigation is on bioethanol and biohydrogen production from oxalate-rich rhubarb leaves which are an underutilized residue of cultivation. Rhubarb can be the feedstock for using thermophilic, anaerobic bacteria. fermentation second-generation biomass to biofuels by Thermoanaerobacter has already been reported as well their high ethanol hydrogen yields although not examined this purpose. thermohydrosulfuricus strain AK91 was characterized (temperature pH optima, substrate utilization spectrum) demonstrates that utilize most carbohydrates found in lignocellulosic biomass. Additionally, influence specific culture conditions, namely partial pressure initial glucose concentration, were investigated batch reveals inhibited. experiments containing common inhibitory compounds, carboxylic acids aldehydes, some concentrations rhubarb. Strain affected alkanoic oxalate up at least 100 mM inhibited 40 malate. Interestingly, demonstrated ability reduce primary alcohols; more detailed studies with propionate a model compound AK91’s growth severally impacted loadings 1-propanol titers did exceed 8.5 mM. grass leaf hydrolysates produced 7.0 6.3 g?1, respectively.
